Technology: Induction Loop(s), also known as Telecoil or T-Coil

When it was invented: 1700’s, rediscovered in 1937

Inventor(s): Franklin, Faraday, Tesla and Poliakoff

Technology Purpose: Hearing assistive device. It is used to improve the environment surrounding and improve communication needs of Hard of Hearing.

How does/did it work? : Picks up magnetic field generated by telephone speaker coil, then converted to audio signal.
